Chemstore Chemical Safety Awareness Training Day

Through years of experience helping companies manage their workplace chemical safety requirements, Chemstore understand the needs of industry perfectly. For this reason, we run regular training courses, to help companies and institutions meet both their legal requirements, as well as their responsibility to their staff, their environment and the public. 

Chemstore’s most recent training day was held on the 13th May, at the Greenhills Hotel, Limerick.  Among the attendees were staff members from the following institutions:

  • University of Limerick
  • Limerick Institute of Technology
  • Teagasc
  • Abbeywater

Our guest speaker on this occasion was Mr Fergus Cullen from Innovection. Mr Cullen  spoke on the use and principle of Diphoterine and Hexaflourine.

The course covered the following topics with workstations set up to demonstrate practical methods:

  • Requirement of the Safety, Health & Welfare at Work Act 2005.
  • What is a Hazardous Substance?
  • Identifying Hazardous Substances.
  • Health impacts of exposure to Chemical Substances.
  • Identify risks associated with chemical use.
  • Material Safety Data Sheets Explained.
  • Personnel Protection Equipment – Overview.
  • Practical Chemical Spill Demonstration.
  • Fire Extinguisher/Fire Blanket use for Chemical Spill.
  • Immediate first aid action for chemical burns.
  • General Principles of Chemical Safety.
