ionGuard – Emergency Response Battery Boxes

Chemstore is proud to introduce its latest innovation, the ionGuard. A lithium-ion battery box thermal runaway suppression system. The ionGuard uses a natural mineral-based extinguishing agent to neutralise any lithium-ion battery fires.

The ionGuard can be custom made to fit any battery size, fully bespoke to your lithium-ion battery storage needs.

The battery box housing unit has a 2mm solid sheet steel floor to allow easy loading of the damaged battery pallet by forklift. As well as, Rockwool insulation under the floor level for improved thermal retention.

Once closed, the integrated hopper can be opened manually to dump the mineral-based extinguishing agent to encase the battery with a 150mm thick layer. The hopper locking mechanism will be fitted with fusible links to open in the event of thermal runaway allowing the extinguishing agent to be deployed automatically.

The environmentally friendly, mineral-based extinguishing agent used for firefighting and prevention of problematic fires including metal, lithium-ion battery cells, and combustible liquids. The small lightweight spheres are composed of non-crystalline glass granulates repurposed from recycled glass with tiny pores on the inside. The engineered formulation of grain sizes produces optimal fire suppression results and can be adjusted for varied industrial applications.

Like glass, the granules melt at a high temperature. The granulates absorb heat in the process of melting, cooling the fire while forming an impervious glass layer over the fire load. A reaction with oxygen is prevented.
